PERSPECTIVES

James, Arnhem Land 1992

Perspective is a provocative word, it offers a Point of View (POV) to appreciating multiple perceptions of the same object, or subject.  A shift to a newer focus being perceived from differing degrees of relative position or angle. Fresh perspectives are typically experientially earned. They can require some time to be comprehended. The image shared here captures a surprising moment of novel perspective (photographed by my son Shannon in 1992) as I was leading an experiential cross-cultural arts tour in a traditional Aboriginal community in Arnhem Land Australia. A poignant moment, when everything we thought and expected was paradoxically revealed to be far different then anything we could have previously imagined. An emotionally challenging cognitive experience for everyone present that proved to be both testing and ultimately rewarding. It is what it is ... So it goes.

A website is a curated point of view). Today , we are launching Wind Driven Bell. Presenting a Process Philosophy of artistic tuba performance. A mindful musical process of embodied, gestalt, ensemble practice expressing resonate wind sounds of fundamental bass materiality. A musically imaginative wind ensemble practice of playing symphonic music as a triangulation of skillful  embodied presence, informed by musical purpose, producing artistic possibility.

Bon Voyage. Take time to enjoy an informative musical journey through a philosophically informed wind-bass performance practice. Hopefully, sharing your own experiences, insights, and performative questions, contributing to this inquiry, articulating musical comprehensions of wind-bass tuba sound and its ensemble practice in symphonic performance.
